How To Place A Child Or Children At Boys & Girls Harbor
Boys and Girls Harbor provides a stable and loving home environment for children ages 5 to 18, and can accommodate a total of 88 children at a time. Children and youth who arrive at Boys & Girls Harbor will have a place to live – whether it is for a month or several years. For children living at Boys & Girls Harbor, the Harbor is their home. The children live in cottages with house parents. They attend public school, and participate in after school programs and activities. By providing a safe and loving environment, the Harbor teaches children how to overcome the pain of the past and prepares them for a brighter future. Seventy-five percent are on the A-B honor roll at school, an important accomplishment. Many go on to obtain vocational, junior college and college degrees. All lead happier, more productive lives. Additionally, Boys & Girls Harbor strives to keep sibling groups together.
The admission procedure involved in placing a child at Boys & Girls Harbor is at least, but not limited to, an interview (with the child and family or placement agency) to understand and assess the child’s needs while explaining the services provided by Boys & Girls Harbor. During this process, campus rules, routines and general expectations are reviewed and explained. Parents and guardians are asked to bring to the interview/application process copies of any school records, immunization records, the child’s birth certificate and social security card, the Boys & Girls Harbor Application or CPS Common Application, physical done within the last 30 day, and school records. Other records and information regarding the child and family are also due at this time.
